Reboot your Shavuot

SHAVUOT noun  Sha·vu·ot \shə-ˈvü-ˌōt, -ˌōth, -ˌōs, -əs\: a Jewish holiday celebrated 50 days after the first day of Passover in commemoration of the revelation of the Ten Commandments at Mt. Sinai —called also Pentecost.

Looking for a way to bring some sinai to your community, family and friends. Keep reading for ways to celebrate this spring time Festival.

1-  Say Cheesecake with Beyond Bubbie

The Golden Girls deSsert of choice makes a great conversation piece. What sweet desserts did your Bubbie make? Gather them together and create a recipe book of sweets and stories. HAVE KIDS IN Your community? create memories and cheesecake as a group and share your favorite family stories.

2-  Unscrolling Sinai

Bring together members of your communities, storytellers and speakers, poets and performers to take the stage to unravel the story of revelation at Mount Sinai. Wrestle with the meaning and legacy, history and mystery of one of Judaism’s foundational moments.

3-  Unscrolled Trivia Hour

What day was the Sabbath created? Where can you get leprosy? How many tablets did Mel Brooks have in History of the World, Part 1? If you can answer these questions (or even if you can’t!) come on down for a raucous hour of Torah and pop culture trivia!

4-  Six-Word Memoirs on Shavuot

Mount Sinai: Short mountain, tall order.

Hey Mo’, when you coming down?

Omer countdown over. Let’s celebrate Torah.

Lasagna lovers most favorite holiday ever.

Want to get your community talking about the Festival of Weeks? Start them off with Six-Word Memoirs on Jewish Life to get the conversation flowing like words of Torah. Create a Six-Word memoir wall, blog, graffiti table to capture the responses from your community.

5-  reBar your Torah portion

As we celebrate receiving the Torah- why not celebrate receiving the Torah as an adult? Challenge folks in your community to rethink their B-Mitzvah Torah portion. Share their new takes as adults and start conversation anew.
